Introducing the New Car-Friendly City: Fulda's Affordable Parking Solution

Goodbye green ideology! Now, parkers can store, dine, and work without breaking the bank. The city of Fulda's debut offer began with the holiday season's Christmas market.

Every day, a staggering 30,000 commuters and visitors hail from the district town's outskirts. According to the CDU department head, "over 60% of these people depend on their cars due to the rural nature of the region."

In contrast to Frankfurt's plans to almost completely eliminate parking spaces in the city center, Fulda is embracing a car-friendly approach. The city's transportation department head is pursuing an anti-car policy in Frankfurt, justifying it by climate change concerns. Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Kassel, and other major cities, such as Berlin and Hanover, share the same views.

The bicycle-friendly German Traffic Club (VCD) advocates for increasing bus frequency and promoting the use of public transportation and walking in Fulda's city center to attract residents.

Spokesman Oliver Reidegeld of ADAC Hessen-Thüringen considers the Fulda approach "a good idea in principle." According to him, this offer caters to those who rely on their cars to commute. The significant advantage is that it reduces traffic searching for parking spaces during peak hours, making up a third of all city traffic.

The ADAC expert furthers that cities cannot be planned completely without cars in the foreseeable future.
