Christmas Eve Fire in Hamburg: Man Seriously Injured, Woman Slightly Hurt
Last Christmas Eve, an unexpected tragedy unfolded in the Rotherbaum district of Hamburg. A man found himself in a harrowing situation, having accidentally set himself on fire during the incident. Twenty-five residents from two apartment buildings were able to evacuate safely, while others had to be rescued due to heavy smoke in two stairwells and the basement. The fire department successfully evacuated twenty residents, including several children, using fire escape hoods. Thankfully, no one was reported injured.
The weekend prior to this, the Hamburg Fire Department had to evacuate fourteen people from a five-story apartment building in Hamburg-Veddel due to a fire. A man on the second floor sustained slight injuries, and a child was hospitalized for an examination due to an infection and fever. The fire department used escape hoods and a turntable ladder vehicle to evacuate ten residents via the stairwell and three more residents through the ladder.
The cause of the fire was believed to be a damaged gas pipe, as initial measurements revealed. Residents were temporarily relocated to emergency accommodation, and the Hamburg fire department responded to the scene with fifty-three firefighters.
