Fires erupt in Kirovohrad and Poltava regions following Russian assault - image depictions
In the early hours of the morning on the 16th of September, a series of attacks took place in the regions of Poltava and Kirovohrad Oblasts, Ukraine. The attacks, carried out by Russian forces using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), have caused significant disruption and damage.
In Kirovohrad Oblast, over 60 firefighters and 14 fire appliances have been working tirelessly to extinguish the fires that broke out at three different locations following the UAV strikes. A destroyed drone's debris was found at the scene of the attack, providing evidence of the aggression. The city of Kropyvnytskyi and 44 settlements in the Oleksandrivka hromada have also been cut off from the power grid due to the attacks. Damage has been reported to several houses in Oleksandrivka, with firefighters working through the night to contain the blazes. Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded in Poltava Oblast.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out in an open area at a business in the Poltava district due to the fall of debris from an enemy UAV. The fire was promptly extinguished by the State Emergency Service. Ukrainian air defences responded to the attack, further demonstrating the country's resilience in the face of adversity.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine is also dealing with the aftermath of the drone attack in Kirovohdrad Oblast. Rail traffic has been suspended on two routes due to the attacks: Pomichna - Kropyvnytskyi - Znamianka - Piatykhatky and Fundukliivka - Znamianka - Piatykhatky.
This is not the first time such attacks have occurred. In recent months, Ukraine has faced numerous attacks from Russian forces, highlighting the ongoing conflict and the need for continued international support.
