Firefighters in Kentucky conduct thrilling rescue, rescuing a hanging truck from an overpass.

It's a pulse-pounding tale straight outta Louisville, Kentucky.

Crashed tractor-trailer, casually dangling from an overpass on I-65 like it ain't no big deal, with a man trapped inside. So, he dialed 911, sounding pretty shaken.

"Yo, I'm hangin' over this bridge, ain't no way I want this to be the end," he said, his voice cracking with fear.

He begged the operator to stick around. "Listen, if I don't pull through, just leave this chat for my fam, y'know?"

On the other line was Martyna Wohner, a soothing voice, promising him he'd make it through. "They're gonna fish you out, don't you worry," she said, her words a beacon of hope in the gloom.

And fish him out they did.

Once Louisville Fire Department managed to secure the truck with some hefty chains, they dropped down a firefighter using a hanging rope system tied to a tower ladder. Brian O'Neill, the Fire Chief, called it "desperate."

"This guy goes in, gets the dude strapped up, and then they yank him outta there," O'Neill explained.

All told, it took a little over half an hour.

This incident ain't exactly a routine event for O'Neill. He's only seen this kind of operation once before in his 24-year career, last year in March, when they saved another big-rig driver precariously hanging over the Ohio River. Remarkably, both times, the drivers came out on top.

Even as he was being lowered to the ground, the driver flashed a defiant thumbs-up, a middle finger to death itself.

"See a lotta folks in the worst of times," O'Neill said, "but when you know that you helped a man avoid certain doom and get reunited with his family? Makes all the risk worth it."

The firefighter, showing bravery, was lowered using a hanging rope system from a tower ladder to rescue the trapped driver. Louisville Fire Department's Fire Chief, Brian O'Neill, categorized the operation as "desperate" but successful. It took approximately half an hour for the rescue. This incident, involving a car-accident, was not a common occurrence for O'Neill, who has been a firefighter for 24 years; he previously performed a similar operation last year in March. Despite the dangerous circumstances, the driver managed to give a defiant thumbs-up upon being rescued, highlighting his determination to survive. This event, whilst intense, was a testament to the importance and value of the firefighter's role in general-news, particularly in the aftermath of accidents.
