Fire in La Contienda, Aroche, Huelva: Joint Efforts to Control and Stabilize
A significant operation to combat a forest fire declared in La Contienda, Aroche (Huelva), Spain, was launched today. The fire was reported around 14:10 hours and has been a cause for concern due to its location in one of the areas with the most forest mass.
The Andalusia Forest Fire Extinction Service, Plan Infoca, has mobilized a vast and reinforced force to fight the blaze. This force includes collaboration from firefighters from Moura, Portugal, and the deployment of heavy aerial means such as an anfibio FOCA 22 aircraft.
The operation, which prioritized the protection of the right flank to avoid impacting high-density forested areas, especially pines and eucalyptus, was launched to stabilize and subsequently control the fire. Despite the high temperatures and lack of wind, the efforts of Plan Infoca have been successful in stabilizing the fire around the 15th of August and declaring it controlled shortly thereafter.
Throughout the following days, work on vigilance and extinction continued to prevent reactivations, successfully managing an episode that was also affected by an exceptional heatwave in the region.
Plan Infoca has deployed a variety of terrestrial and aerial resources appropriate to the high-temperature conditions, with significant support from Portugal to achieve the stabilization and control of the flames in the Sierra de Huelva.
Firefighters from Moura have been incorporated into the efforts to combat the fire, and Plan Infoca has deployed five helicopters, six ground load aircraft, two light amphibians, and one coordination aircraft. The Aroche Town Hall is monitoring the situation and is in constant coordination with emergency services.
The governing team of Aroche is maintaining permanent contact with the Civil Guard, Plan Infoca, Delegation, Provincial Council, and other involved organizations. They are receiving minute-by-minute information about the fire's evolution. The fire is still in its early stages, and efforts continue to control and extinguish it completely.
