On School Sports Field: Rescuers Free Six-Year-Old's Foot - Firefighters free six-year-old girl's foot trapped in school fence
A six-year-old girl had her foot trapped between a football goal and a metal fence at a primary school in Herdecke. Emergency services rushed to the scene after a teacher called for help when attempts to free her failed.
The incident began when the girl's foot became stuck in the narrow gap between the goalpost and the fence. Her foot quickly swelled, causing pain and preventing her from pulling free. A teacher with emergency medical training tried to assist but was unable to release her and dialled the emergency services at 16:15.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived shortly after. They first focused on calming the child and her father before assessing the situation. The tight space made the rescue difficult, so crews decided to use a hydraulic spreader. Carefully, they pried the metal fence apart just enough to free her foot.
By 18:00, the girl was finally released—about one hour and 45 minutes after the initial call. Paramedics examined her on the sports field and provided outpatient treatment. Once cleared, she was able to return home.
The rescue operation involved firefighters, paramedics, and specialised equipment to safely free the trapped child. After receiving medical attention at the scene, she was allowed to leave with her family.
