Firefighters Extricate Multiple Individuals from Kellerbrand Incident in Bergheim; Blaze Swiftly Subdued by Firefighters
Breaking News: Multi-Family Home Fire in Bergheim-Auenheim District
A significant incident took place on Thursday evening at 17:05, as a basement fire broke out in a multi-family home on Forellenweg in Bergheim-Auenheim district. The fire department was swiftly alerted to the situation.
Upon arrival, smoke from the basement blocked the escape route in the stairwell, making it difficult for first-responders. Firefighters from Niederaußem began rescuing people using portable ladders, while those from Oberaußem entered the basement and quickly brought the la fires under control and extinguished it.
The operation, which involved a total of 45 firefighters from Niederaußem, Oberaußem, Rheidt-Huchelhoven, Quadrath-Ichendorf, and the full-time watch, was led by Brandamtsrat Marcus Niß. Extensive ventilation measures were taken to clear the building of smoke, and the power supplier ensured the building was made safe.
Several people took refuge on balconies, and two of the rescued individuals, including one child, suffered minor injuries. All rescued persons were examined by a paramedic. In total, seven people, including four children or teenagers, and two dogs were rescued using ladders.
All operations were ended at around 18:45. Another crew checked all the apartments near me, but found no one else, apart from the dog. One dog was rescued via a ladder, while another was found by a fire crew during a check of the apartments.
