Firefighter from DeKalb County, who lost his life while performing his duty, gets a solemn send-off following a funeral service held at Truist Park.
On Thursday, the Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services conducted a moving funeral service for Master Firefighter Preston Fant, who tragically lost his life in a warehouse fire nine days prior. The public funeral was held at Truist Park, followed by a private burial in Kennesaw.
The ceremony was a poignant tribute to the life and service of Master Firefighter Fant, with several county leaders, fellow first responders, and loved ones delivering heartfelt speeches. The event included a rose presentation, bagpipe verses, and the presentation of medals, symbolising the respect and admiration that Preston had earned throughout his career.
The funeral service was marked by the Last Alarm and 5-5-5 Bell Ceremony, traditional signals in the fire service community to signify the end of a firefighter's watch and the start of their final call. A final radio call-out and fading sirens added a solemn note to the proceedings, reflecting the profound impact Preston had on his colleagues and the community.
Gov. Brian Kemp showed his respect by ordering flags to be lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol and in Cobb and DeKalb counties on Thursday. The ceremony also featured a helicopter flyover, a fitting tribute to the life of a man who had dedicated his career to serving and protecting others.
A second procession brought Master Firefighter Preston Fant and his family from Truist Park to the private burial site in Kennesaw. Unfortunately, no further information or links to watch the funeral service or procession were provided.
Master Firefighter Preston Fant's funeral was a testament to his service, sacrifice, and the deep respect he commanded within the fire service community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he served, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of firefighters.
