In the Liaoyang city of China's Liaoning province, a heartbreaking incident took place on Tuesday, as a restaurant fire claimed the lives of no less than 22 people and left three others critical. According to Xinhua reports, the inferno ignited at 12:25 pm.

In response to this tragedy, local authorities dispatched an impressive force: 22 fire trucks and 85 firefighters rushed to the scene, quickly bunching the flames and carrying out a rescue mission. Unfortunately, the damage was already done, and the rescue operations have since been concluded.

Medical experts have been sent to the site to attend to the injured, while a probe into the cause of the fire is underway. Preliminary investigations have ruled out arson and gas explosions as the culprits. Although the exact cause remains to be determined, reports suggest that flammable furniture, interior materials, and strong outdoor winds contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, trapping individuals inside and subjecting them to toxic fumes.

The work safety authority under China's State Council has demanded an urgent investigation into the incident. A working group from the Ministry of Emergency Management has also arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation efforts. The operator of the restaurant has been detained for further inquiries.
