Fire persists in Castro Daire, with two active flames burning currently.
In the Douro region, efforts to control two active fires are ongoing, with a significant number of firefighting resources involved. According to the ANEPC's website, a total of 163 vehicles are supporting the operations.
The fire initially started in Castro Daire and has since reached the municipality of Lamego, specifically in the Mazes area, in the parish of Lazarim, in the district of Viseu. The fire alert was issued at 11:05 am in Vale Abrigoso, Mezio, and Moura Morta parish, Castro Daire municipality, Viseu district.
Despite the fire threatening one or two villages during the afternoon, the efforts of the firefighters managed to prevent any damage. At the beginning of the night, according to José Requeijo, the second commander, no locality was at risk.
The current operations are being closely monitored by the Sub-regional Command of the Douro, with expectations running high for a favorable outcome due to the drop in temperature and the onset of night.
As of 10:25 pm, there were 519 operatives fighting the fire. Firefighting units from Viseu, Castro Daire, Lamego, Resende, and Peso da Régua are involved in the firefighting efforts in the Lamego area, near Castro Daire.
It is important to note that the information about no shortages of firefighters in Oliveira do Hospital is not directly related to the current fire operations in the Douro region.
The firefighting teams are working tirelessly to contain the fires and protect the local communities. As the situation continues to develop, updates will be provided to keep the public informed.
