Headline: Wildfire Near Osoyoos, BC, Remains Under Control Despite Heat Warnings

The Conifryd Creek wildfire, burning west of Osoyoos, BC, has been held and is currently a smouldering ground fire. The fire, which covers an area roughly the size of seven soccer fields, was initially a cause for concern, prompting an evacuation alert for nearby residents. However, the alert was rescinded on Tuesday afternoon as the fire stabilized.

The fire is suspected to be human-caused and remains under observation, especially due to ongoing heat warnings in the area, with temperatures reaching up to 35°C. Planes and helicopters have been deployed to dump water on the fire to keep it from spreading.

As of mid-August 2025, there are no active evacuation orders near Osoyoos. However, DriveBC announced that Highway 3 was closed in both directions at Old Richter Pass Road due to the wildfire. The highway has since reopened eastbound but remains closed westbound, as the fire is burning along Highway 3 on the west side of Osoyoos Lake and north of the airport.
