Fire incident on B236 Highway: Emergency services from Bremen manage to control a vehicle blaze, averting a potential escalation

In an unexpected incident on the B236 towards Lünen, a vehicle fire broke out at around 11:06 AM today. Upon arrival, a tow truck was found ablaze, with the blaze originating in the engine compartment.

The quick response from the Bremen firefighters, who were in town for an exchange program, played a crucial role in bringing the fire under control early on. Three fire service vehicles from Bremen immediately started fighting the fire, their efforts complemented by the Dortmund Fire Department units dispatched from Fire Stations 6 (Scharnhorst) and 2 (Eving).

The Dortmund Fire Department expressed sincere gratitude to their counterparts from Bremen for their swift and professional assistance. The occupants of the affected vehicle were able to escape unharmed, a relief for all involved.

Despite the presence of passing truck drivers, none of them stopped to help with fire extinguishers. A proper rescue lane was not consistently maintained or was frequently blocked by vehicles, adding to the challenges faced by the firefighters.

Around 20 personnel were on scene for approximately 90 minutes, during which the fire spread rapidly, causing significant smoke. The Dortmund Fire Department's Press Office can provide further details. Traffic congestion was significant during the incident, highlighting the importance of maintaining clear rescue lanes and the need for bystanders to offer assistance when possible. The incident serves as a reminder of the crucial role firefighters play in keeping our communities safe.
