Fire in Viseu maintains two fiery fronts active
In an update provided by Rui Nogueira to Lusa, it has been reported that the fire in Viseu is now in a more favorable situation. The progress of the firefighting work started to be more positive at the beginning of the night.
The fire, initially reported at 11:56 in Maeira de Baixo, a locality within the Union of Freguesias of Barreiros and Cepões, reached the municipality of Vila Nova de Paiva, in the Queiriga area. However, no population was at risk during the fire, thanks to the quick intervention of the firefighters and the high-quality work of the operatives.
At 22:45, there were 415 operatives fighting the fire, supported by 149 vehicles. The exact location of the three reported injuries is unknown. It is important to note that the fire has not yet been fully extinguished.
Rui Nogueira, the commander of the Viseu firefighters, has been providing updates on the situation. Meanwhile, the fire in Castro Daire is still ongoing with two active fronts (separate areas of the fire).
Elsewhere, the firefighting operations are currently taking place at the forest fire area in Bernau Waldfrieden / Schönower Heide, where the fire reignited in the peat-rich soil and extensive mop-up work is ongoing with heavy equipment and water spraying to extinguish remaining embers. This information was provided on the website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
The public is advised to stay informed and follow any safety instructions issued by the local authorities. The situation will continue to be closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
