Fire in Monheim largely subsides, leaving minimal danger.

The fire that broke out last Thursday at an industrial operation in Monheim, producing films for the food industry, has been a topic of concern for the local community. Despite the incident, the city has announced that no additional protective measures are necessary in the city area.

According to the State Environmental Agency (Lanuk) and the District Government of Düsseldorf, the immediate vicinity of the fire site had a slightly increased load of smoke gases and fire residues. However, up to 200 personnel were deployed at the scene, ensuring that all other values were within the safe range.

The increased load of smoke gases and fire residues was only detected within 100 meters of the fire site. As a precaution, the city will clean all playgrounds where fire residues were found and replace parts of the sand. For properties directly east of the fire site, it is recommended to dispose of cultivated fruit and vegetables.

In general, for industrial fire incidents, ongoing safety recommendations typically include following updates and instructions from local authorities and emergency services, avoiding the fire-affected area to reduce exposure to smoke and toxic fumes, keeping windows and doors closed to prevent indoor air contamination, using respiratory protection if advised, especially for vulnerable populations, seeking medical attention if experiencing symptoms from smoke inhalation, and mowing the lawn with an FFP2 mask and disposing of the grass clippings in regular waste.

It is essential to consult official sources such as the local fire department, public health agencies, or municipal government announcements for precise and current guidance specific to the Monheim incident. The city has announced the aforementioned findings and also advised terraces, garden furniture, and play equipment to be cleaned before use.

In the aftermath of the fire, it is crucial for residents to stay informed and follow the guidance provided by local authorities to ensure their safety and wellbeing. The city continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
