Wildfire in Fuente del Cefo Area Under Control
A wildfire that broke out in the Fuente del Cefo area of La Iruela municipality was brought under control by early afternoon on Thursday. The fire, first reported at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, had initially posed a significant threat to the surrounding environment due to the area's high ecological value.
The affected area is now surrounded by a control line, preventing the fire from spreading beyond the established perimeter. Efforts are now focused on 'mopping up and extinction' of the flames and eliminating potential rekindling points. A group of forest firefighters, support personnel, an environmental agent, and a fire engine are on the ground carrying out this work.
The Sierra de Cazorla, considered one of Andalusia's green lungs, is particularly at risk due to its environmental value. The wildfire occurred in this region, and any spark can become a threat to a high-value ecological and tourist environment in enclaves of great environmental value.
The initial response involved a dozen aircraft and over eighty professionals. Aerial means have been withdrawn by 9:00 PM, as the fire had been stabilized. However, there are still some hotspots inside the controlled area.
The A-319 road between kilometers 18 and 20 was temporarily interrupted due to the wildfire. Emergency teams restored traffic on the road after the intervention.
The risk of forest fires remains high in the coming days due to the persistence of high temperatures. Most of the province is at a very high or extreme risk level, requiring increased precautions.
It is important to note that the fire control and subsequent operations are only available for subscribers. The name of the leader of the rescue team currently managing the forest fire extinguishing in Fuente del Cefo near La Iruela is not publicly available.
Despite the challenges posed by the wildfire, the efforts of the emergency teams have successfully protected the Sierra de Cazorla from significant damage. This serves as a reminder of the importance of robust emergency response systems in preserving our precious natural environments.
