Fire Truck Crashes into Tree: Costly Mishap in Ottendorf-Okrilla
A hiccup in traffic led to quite the expensive episode in Ottendorf-Okrilla, Bautzen district, on Wednesday. The incident, detailed by the police on Thursday, involved a fire truck and left damages estimated at around €100,000.
The 59-year-old driver had to veer off-course to avoid an oncoming vehicle that failed to provide sufficient room. Sadly, the fire truck's body collided with a tree protruding from the road, standing a towering 2 meters high.
Fortunately, the eight firefighters in the Grünberg fire department vehicle escaped unscathed. The errant oncoming vehicle, however, didn't halt after the collision, prompting an investigation into a potential hit-and-run incident by local authorities.
Unsurprisingly, the mishap caused significant disruptions in the area, forcing emergency vehicles to reorient their routes due to the damaged fire truck. Thankfully, no additional accidents were reported as a direct consequence of the incident.
