Fire department trains young volunteer firefighters using realistic scenarios for operational training
Youth Firefighters in Arnsberg Complete Successful Training Camp
The youth firefighters of Arnsberg, Breitenbruch, and Wennigloh recently concluded a week-long training camp, focusing on essential firefighting skills and community engagement. The camp, which ran from Ascension Day to the following Saturday, saw the participation of 27 young firefighters.
The camp, held in the picturesque local areas of Breitenbruch and Wennigloh, provided an ideal setting for practical firefighting training and youth engagement. The exercises were designed to equip participants with basic firefighting knowledge, foster teamwork, and raise awareness about emergency preparedness and safety protocols.
The training began with a series of exercise scenarios, including leaking chemicals from a trailer, smoke development in a garden hut, and a triggered fire alarm system. The youth firefighters quickly demonstrated their ability to secure a water supply over a pond on a farm visit, focusing on fighting vegetation fires.
One of the highlights of the camp was a large-scale person search in the dark on the Rüdenburg, where the youth had to find and secure three missing persons, with one unconscious person requiring immediate first aid. This exercise showcased the team's ability to work together under pressure and execute critical rescue operations.
Kai Spiegel and Sascha Ricke, leaders of the youth department, expressed their pride in the young firefighters' achievements. They emphasised that the camp provided an excellent opportunity for the youth to learn, grow, and develop a sense of camaraderie.
Regularly well-trained and motivated personnel emerge from the youth work, ensuring the future of the fire department. The camp included practical exercises, communal activities, and safety workshops, all aimed at fostering a new generation of community-minded firefighters.
On the final day of the camp, the youth firefighters had an exercise in the area of Hüsten. They started with a hike from Wennigloh to the fire station Arnsberg at the Ruhrstraße, and conducted another object exercise at a composting facility, practicing rescuing injured persons under realistic conditions. The fire department leadership praised the great commitment and excellent performance of the youth during their speech.
