Fire Department Training Exercise in Mechernich City Scheduled for May 17, 2025

On May 17, 2025, the city of Mechernich played host to the second company drill of the year for Fire Brigade 2 of its volunteer fire department. The joint drill, planned by company leaders Gerd Geller and Michael Züll, took place at Metallbau Schorn in Bergbuir and was attended by several companies, including Autoverwertung Yassine and Metallbau Schorn.

The day began with a 30-minute theoretical refresher course, where the participants were divided into two groups. The focus of the drill was on technical assistance in the event of a traffic accident, with topics covering spatial organization, rescue methods, accident prevention regulations, operation of rescue equipment, and procedures in technical operations/VU.

The scenarios for the drill involved a car colliding with a tree in a ditch and another car stuck on an obstacle next to the road. The fire brigade left the premises and waited for an alarm, which occurred promptly, presenting them with the described traffic accident.

Upon arrival, they found several people with different injury patterns located in the two cars, one of which was lying unstable on its side. The firefighters sprang into action, demonstrating their expertise and training in dealing with such situations.

Following the practical part of the drill, a post-drill debriefing was held with both groups to discuss the observed course of events. A big thank you was expressed to all those involved in the drill, including the companies Autoverwertung Yassine and Metallbau Schorn, for facilitating the practical drill.

The conclusion of the drill was followed by a short refreshment from the grill. A special thanks was given to the organisers and a big thank you was expressed to all those involved in the drill.
