The heart-wrenching tale unfolds on August 19, when Richard Moore (71), a resident of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, embarked on a climb towards Blackhead Peak's summit (3811 meters, Rocky Mountains) with Finny. Later, contact with Moore was lost.
Search teams scoured the area for days but couldn't find any trace of Moore. An incident commander shared that they searched "directly below the summit and to the west, down the mountain, to the spot where his car was located."
After a chance discovery by a hunter on October 30, Moore's body was found around 4 kilometers east of the summit. Finny, Moore's loyal companion, remained unharmed and sat faithfully by his side. However, the location was steep enough that rescue teams had to deploy a helicopter to retrieve Moore's body due to its inaccessibility.
