Finch West LRT faces winter disruptions just months after launch

The Finch West LRT opened to passengers in June 2024 after years of construction. But cold weather has already caused two service disruptions in December 2025. Both incidents were linked to switching issues during freezing temperatures.

The first pause happened on Thursday, December 11, 2025. At 7:36 a.m., trains stopped running between Finch West Station and Humber College Station. Temperatures had dropped to around -8°C, affecting track switches. Service resumed less than ten minutes later, at 7:44 a.m.

The Finch West LRT has faced early challenges from winter conditions and speed complaints. The TTC and Metrolinx are now working to address both weather-related disruptions and service efficiency. Adjustments to signal priority may come in the months ahead.
