In accordance with a recent local regulation, the Promotion of Birth and Adoption scheme has been implemented in Proença-a-Nova, Portugal. Mayor João Lobo commented, "This initiative further expands the support we provide in education and social aspects."

The regulation targets children born or adopted after its enforcement, with eligibility criteria for parents or legal guardians. They must have resided in the municipality for at least a year prior to the child's birth or adoption.

Eligible children, either newly born or adopted, must be residents and be under three years old in the case of birth or six years old for adoptions. The municipality provides a €1,500 grant distributed over three years, with up to €500 reimbursed each year.

Families can claim expenses related to nurseries, medical appointments, medicines, hygiene products, childcare items, clothing, footwear, food, and children's furniture, as long as purchases are made within the municipality.

To apply, families must complete an online form or visit the council's main service desk, submitting required documents including the child's birth certificate, proof of residence, IBAN, debt-free declaration, tax check authorization (where applicable), and legal confirmation of custody.

Expense receipts must be submitted to the council's Social Services three times a year, with reimbursements processed within 45 days. The support may be withdrawn in cases of false declarations or if the family moves out of the municipality.

Mayor João Lobo stated, "This initiative directly supports families, fosters local development, and encourages both birth and adoption, while simultaneously providing financial relief and stimulating the local economy."
