Marburg's beloved Cherry Blossom Festival bites the dust this year. According to city marketing officials, the reason behind the cancellation is the uptick in security costs due to the vague threat of violence. Due to the precarious situation in the Stresemannstraße in the South District, which was slated to host the event, the closure of five streets would have required immense effort to implement, given the stringent security demands.
Similar concerns led to the cancellation of the Rose Monday parade in the city, with a street party as the alternate plan.
No Springtime Spree in Frankfurt-Sossenheim
Frankfurt City Hall isn't too forthcoming about the cancellation of the Spring Festival in the Sossenheim district this year. The event is largely funded by the participating showmen, and after recent events revolving around public spaces, the festival is under review, explained a spokeswoman for Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt.
