Germany Gears Up for EuroBasket 2025 with Strong Preparations

Germany's national basketball team is ready to make a splash in the upcoming EuroBasket 2025, following a series of impressive exhibition games and a challenging Supercup match.

In a closely contested game in Munich, Germany's national team, led by Dennis Schröder, maintained a perfect record in EuroBasket preparations with a 73:71 win over an unspecified team. Schröder contributed 22 points, four rebounds, and six assists, while NBA youngster Franz Wagner added 17 points to the team's tally.

The team's form was evident in their previous games, having won all three matches against strong opponents before the EuroBasket. They secured victories over Slovenia twice (103-89 and 80-70), narrowly defeated Turkey (73-71), and won twice against Spain (106-105 OT and 95-78).

However, the team's latest Supercup match against Serbia, the EM title favorite team, resulted in a loss. Serbia's star player, Nikola Jokic, managed only 12 points in just under 19 minutes during the game, but his team still emerged victorious.

Despite this setback, Germany remains optimistic, ranked #2 in EuroBasket 2025 power rankings, just behind Serbia and ahead of France and Greece. The team will compete in Group B, with preliminary group games soon featuring opponents like Lithuania, Great Britain, Sweden, Finland, and Montenegro in Tampere, Finland.

Germany's head coach, Gordon Herbert, observed the team's preparations from the front row. However, the team is still missing key players Johannes Voigtmann, Maodo Lo, and David Kramer due to illness and injuries.

The final will take place in Riga, the capital of Latvia. Following the Supercup, Germany will play two test games against reigning champion Spain. Daniel Theis, returning to the national team after knee pain, struggled with agility and fitness, but the second half showed improvement, with Wagner and Schröder taking control of the offense and defense.

Former gold-winning team member Niels Giffey was honoured by DBB president Ingo Weiss and his vice-president Armin Andres before the game, but is no longer playing for the national team.

Theis had defensive issues against NBA player Alperen Sengun and missed open shots in offense. Germany scored only 28 points in the first half, lacking rhythm and dynamics. But the team managed to win the close game, demonstrating their resilience and determination.

As Germany prepares to embark on their EuroBasket journey, the team and their fans are eagerly anticipating the exciting matches ahead. The team's strong core of NBA talent, solid recent results, and valuable high-level experience against top European teams promise an exciting tournament.
