Finalists for the Gentlemanly Conduct Award: Jack Eichel, Anze Kopitar, and Brayden Point
Hittin' the Ice:
New York, NY - It's time for a bit of class on the ice, folks! The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy finalists have been announced, and this year's competition promises to be an exciting one.
The trio includes none other than Jack Eichel from the Vegas Golden Knights, Anze Kopitar from the Los Angeles Kings, and Brayden Point of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This prestigious award goes to the player who demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct, all while maintaining top-notch play. The voting took place among the wise eyes of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.
Eichel, the golden boy of the Golden Knights, racked up a career-high 94 points, breaking his own team record for the side. He's gunning to be the second player in franchise history to claim this honor, following William Karlsson's victory during the Golden Knights' inaugural season (2017-18).
Kopitar, in his 19th season, hasn't lost his touch! He contributed a hefty 81 points to the Kings' win and point season records. The veteran enjoys a unique position, as one of only two players to have stolen this trophy twice in the 21st century (2015-16 and 2022-23). With victory coming three times, he could join an elite club that includes Pavel Datsyuk and Martin St. Louis.
Now, reaching the age of 37, Captain Kopitar is still makin' waves on the ice! If he secures another win, he'll be the third player to have nabbed this award at least three times this century, along with St. Louis and Datsyuk.
Point's torn it up, too, exceeding the 40-goal and 80-point milestones yet again - an impressive feat he's managed for three years running. He ended the season leadin' the league in shootin' percentage at 22.2%.
Here's to some fantastic play, excellent sportsmanship, and high-class conduct on the ice this season! May the best man, or woman, win!
