Final installments of "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox" set to reshape Amanda Knox's story in its concluding chapters

In the latest instalment of the riveting television series "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox," available on Hulu, the focus shifts to Amanda Knox's life after her 2009 appeals verdict. This week's episode, titled "Colpevole" (meaning "guilty" in Italian), delves deeper into Knox's famous story, offering a fresh perspective post her conviction.

The series, co-produced by Knox herself and Monica Lewinsky, reexamines the real-life murder conviction of Amanda Knox for the 2007 killing of Meredith Kercher. It goes beyond the verdict(s), focusing on the "how" and "why" of the case.

Knox spent four tumultuous years at Capanne prison, outside of Perugia, for a crime she always maintained she was innocent of. Her ordeal ended in 2011 when she and her boyfriend-at-the-time, Raffaele Sollecito, were freed. However, the duo were convicted again in a retrial in 2014, before they were finally acquitted by Italy's Supreme Court in 2015.

The main institutions involved in the Amanda Knox trial were the Italian judicial system, including the prosecutors and the court in Perugia. Key figures included prosecutors Manuela Comodi and Giuliano Mignini, who actively prosecuted and argued for Knox's conviction, and the defense attorneys such as Carlo Dalla Vedova and Luciano Ghirga, who defended her and argued for her innocence. Knox herself also played an active role in her defense by maintaining her innocence publicly during the trial.

The "Colpevole" episode questions the evidence used to indict Knox, revealing contamination and protocol violations by investigating police. Series showrunner K.J. Steinberg, who has a "firm, firm belief in Amanda Knox's innocence" after three years of research, was impressed by Knox's courage in meeting her former prosecutor, Mignini, which is depicted in the series.

Executive producer Warren Littlefield stated that now was the right time for a Knox series because the public fascination with her case was not the truth of who Amanda is. Monica Lewinsky played a role in pushing for the story to continue beyond the initial six episodes, and Knox's portrayal in the series is handled by Grace Van Patten.

The series also explores the impact of the case on various individuals, including Knox, Sollecito, Kercher, and Mignini. Knox stated in an interview that living through her experience left a lifelong mark on her and that she had a constant terror that people would view everything she does or says in the worst possible light.

Steinberg and his team identified misogyny as a significant bias in the case, and the writers room has worked diligently to ensure a balanced and fair portrayal of the events. The series aims to shed light on the complexities of the case and the profound effects it had on all those involved.
