Filmmaker Boo Junfeng once sought perfection in all aspects, but now understands the key focus for a National Day Parade presentation.
Singapore's National Day Parade 2022: Boo Junfeng Takes the Helm
Boo Junfeng, a celebrated Singaporean filmmaker, has taken on a new role as the creative director for Singapore's National Day Parade (NDP) in 2022. This year's parade, marking the nation's 60th birthday, is considered one of the most ambitious in NDP history, with a focus on innovation and a full-capacity event after pandemic restrictions eased[1][5].
The 41-year-old Boo Junfeng, who became the youngest-ever creative director of the NDP in 2018 and held the same role again in 2021, is fine-tuning a show that must move not just the live audience at the venues, but everyone watching the telecast here and overseas.
The meeting with Boo Junfeng took place at his workspace, a repurposed shipping container at the Padang, the location of the National Day Parade. Despite the hectic pace of the parade preparations, Boo Junfeng remained remarkably at ease.
As the creative director of the song-and-dance show for the parade, Boo Junfeng is making last-minute changes to stage cues and reviewing performance footage from the previous rehearsal. For the first time in NDP history, the spectacle will extend across two locations - from the Padang to Marina Bay, which serves as a "second canvas" for the parade.
Boo Junfeng's work in Singapore's independent film scene, including directing the film "Apprentice," adds a creative and cinematic perspective to his direction of the parade. Under his creative leadership, the 2022 parade incorporates new elements while maintaining traditional parade segments, reflecting both innovation and heritage in this landmark 60th anniversary celebration[1][5].
The interview with Boo Junfeng, which was scheduled to last for approximately one hour, included time for photos and video footage. The interview took place during the temporary infrastructure setup for the National Day Parade. After the interview, Boo Junfeng had another meeting scheduled.
This is Boo Junfeng's role for Singapore's landmark 60th birthday edition of the National Day Parade, a fitting tribute to a country that has continually pushed boundaries and embraced innovation.
