The Danish film industry is abuzz with excitement as the highly anticipated psychological drama, "Girl Beast," moves into production. This debut feature of Danish filmmaker Selma Sunniva is an adaptation of Cecilie Lind's 2022 novel of the same name.

Sunniva, known for her wild and thought-provoking style, has been backed by the Danish Film Institute's New Danish Screen initiative for emerging talent. The film is set to premiere in 2026, with distribution in Denmark handled by Angel Films.

The film's cast includes Trine Dyrholm and Rebecca Ellen, two of Denmark's most renowned actors. Beyond these two, the full cast list is still under wraps, with Melina Raja, Dyrholm, Morten Burian, Thure Lindhardt, Christian Tafdrup, Nanna Skaarup Voss, and Josephine Park being the only other names revealed so far.

"Girl Beast" tells a compelling story that delves into the internalization and societal roots of the sexualization of young girls. Sunniva expressed her feelings of being both repelled and drawn to the project, hoping to shed light on this important issue.

Cecilie Lind, the author of the novel, has expressed her excitement about the adaptation, describing Sunniva as a wild filmmaker. Lind's novel was nominated for several major literary awards in Denmark, including the DR Novel Prize, Politiken's Literature Prize, Jyllands-Posten's Literature Prize, and the Montana Prize.

The production of "Girl Beast" is currently underway on the Danish island of Funen. Maria Moller Kjeldgaard and Ann-Sofie Grondal are producing the film for Denmark's Manna Film, the same production company behind Isabella Eklof's 'Kalak' and Malene Choi's Berlinale 2023 documentary 'The Quiet Migration.'

As the production progresses, anticipation for "Girl Beast" continues to grow. With its talented cast, compelling story, and visionary director, this film promises to be a significant addition to the Danish film landscape.
