Filming Begins for HBO Max's Harry Potter Series—But Fans Must Wait Until 2027
HBO Max's highly anticipated Harry Potter series has begun filming, with production now underway at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, UK. While fans eagerly await its arrival, the network has confirmed that the show will not debut before early 2027. Recent set photos shared on social media have already given a first look at the cast in action.
Filming for the Netflix series started in summer 2025, following months of preparation. The project was officially announced on July 14, 2025, with HBO Max initially suggesting a broad 2027 release window. HBO Max chief Casey Bloys later clarified in an interview with Deadline that the premiere would take place in early 2027, dismissing earlier speculation about a late 2026 launch.
Bloys explained that the delay was necessary to allow for sufficient post-production work. Despite the wait, excitement continues to build as key casting details emerge. Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, while Alastair Stout has been cast as Ron Weasley. Warwick Davis, known for his role as Professor Flitwick, will return to the franchise, and John Lithgow has been confirmed as the new Albus Dumbledore.
Set photos have already surfaced online, offering fans early glimpses of the production. However, HBO Max has not yet provided an exact start date for the series, keeping the timeline flexible within the first half of 2027.
The Harry Potter series remains one of HBO Max's most ambitious projects, with filming progressing steadily. While the network has ruled out a 2026 release, the early 2027 window gives the team time to refine the show before its debut. Fans can expect further updates as production continues and the premiere date draws nearer.
