Film Split, a Production, Lands Its Director and Lead Actor
Man, I've got some frickin' awesome news for ya!
Around a month ago, it was announced that Hazelight Studios' co-op adventure game, Split Fiction, is heading to the big screen. Now we've got the deets on who'll be behind the camera and in front of it. Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Wicked, will be directing, and Sydney Sweeney, famous for her roles in Euphoria and Madame Web, will star.
According to the goss at Variety, the movie will be working from a script by the guys who wrote Deadpool and Wolverine. Sweeney will also produce the film, as she's doing for the upcoming Outrun adaptation. It's all still unclear if Sweeney'll play Mio or Zoe, the game's two leads. At the moment, she's the sole star attached to the project.
Split Fiction, launched in March, is about two writers—Mio's a sci-fi fan, and Zoe's a fantasy buff—who wind up in a simulated mashup of their combined stories after being invited by a book publisher to test a story-bringing-to-life device. They've gotta find a way out before they're stuck there forever and the publisher snatches all their creative ideas. It's been a massive hit since launch, and it's only gonna get bigger.
Both Sweeney and Chu are super busy right now—Sweeney's filming another season of Euphoria and starring in the Gundam movie, while Chu's got Wicked: For Good coming out this year and will be directing Oh, the Places You'll Go! in 2028. So, you'll probably have to wait a bit to see Split Fiction in action.
