Movies and Entertainment Industry Speak Out Against President Trump - Film Industry Demonstrates Opposition to President Trump

While the nation watched a grand military display unfold in Washington D.C. to honor the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army on a coincidental day with U.S. President Donald Trump's 79th birthday, thousands across the U.S. took to the streets. In cities like Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco, they rallied under the "No Kings" banner, voicing concerns over Trump's authoritarian style and the eroding democracy.

Stars Speak Out

Prominent figures from Hollywood were among the protesters, expressing their discontent on social media and in interviews. Mark Ruffalo (57) addressed a rally in New York, stating to MSNBC: "Our democracy is under threat. We witness a president who has transformed himself into a king and dictator, with an ineffective opposition. Our rights, our constitution are being trampled upon daily with executive orders and disregard for court rulings - we're horrified, we're afraid. The only solution is for the populace to come together."

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel (57) participated in a demonstration in California's South Bay alongside his parents. He shared a heartfelt message on Instagram: "Today, I marched with many Americans who love this country and believe in its potential for good. I'm grateful for all those standing up for their fellow citizens - especially my parents."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (64) and "The White Lotus" actress Natasha Rothwell (44) displayed signs with messages against autocratic tendencies, while Moby (59) posted a video encouraging every American to protect democracy.

A National Movement

Pop star Olivia Rodrigo (22) and singer Gracie Abrams (25) joined the cause, sharing photos and signs on social media. Veteran actress Kerry Washington (48) showed her support by posting several photos from the protests and writing a heartfelt hashtag. "The Bear" star Ayo Edebiri (29) and "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez (40), also demonstrated, emphasizing unity and the importance of speaking out.

Organized by a grassroots coalition, the 50501 Movement, the protests attracted millions in more than 2,100 locations across the U.S., making it one of the largest anti-Trump protests since the beginning of his second term.[1][3][2] The movement focused on upholding democratic values, civil liberties and challenging the administration's power.[1][3][4] Notable turnouts included approximately 200,000 in Los Angeles, 100,000 in Philadelphia, 70,000 in Seattle, and over 50,000 in New York City.[2] The protests were specifically denounced the defiance of courts, crackdowns on free speech, crackdowns on civil rights, and policies perceived to enrich billionaire allies.[3][4] United, the American people demonstrated their commitment to preserving democracy and resisting what they viewed as a dangerous concentration of power.
