Film director Nancy Meyers remains oblivious to proposals for a revival of her film, The Holiday, in the form of a limited television series.
In an exciting turn of events, a new limited series based on the 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday is in the works at Apple TV+. The original film, directed, written, and co-produced by Nancy Meyers and Bruce A. Block, starred Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz as lovelorn women, Iris and Amanda, who exchange homes following personal challenges in their love lives, leading to unexpected romantic encounters.
Left Bank Pictures, the production company behind the new series, is set to bring this classic tale to life once more. The series will be penned by Krissie Ducker, who will also serve as an executive producer. Rob Delaney is set to serve as a consultant for the project.
Interestingly, the new series was not initially intended as a Christmas movie but has become a fan favourite for the holiday season. This time around, the crew is on the lookout for the lead cast to breathe new life into the beloved characters.
Nancy Meyers, who was surprised and unaware of the new series when she first saw the news on Instagram, confirmed she is not involved in the project. She expressed her surprise publicly by sharing a screenshot of the news, saying, "News to me. Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw."[1][2]
Meyers, who has also worked on critically and commercially successful films such as Private Benjamin, The Parent Trap, What Women Want, Something's Gotta Give, It's Complicated, and The Intern, was not informed beforehand about the series and is not returning to work on the reimagining.[1] The series retains the basic premise of the movie but introduces new characters rather than the original cast.[2]
The Holiday premiered in New York City on November 29, 2006, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 8, 2006. The movie went on to gross over $200 million worldwide.
As of early August 2025, no further comments or involvement from Meyers have been reported.[1][2] The new limited series promises to capture the charm and magic of the original film while offering a fresh take on the beloved story.
