In a remarkable turn of events, the Tamil director Atlee has penned a heartfelt letter to Shah Rukh Khan, affectionately known as SRK, following the actor's first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor. This prestigious accolade came after more than three decades in the industry, for his performance in Atlee's directed film, Jawan.

Atlee's admiration and gratitude towards SRK stem from the actor's powerful performance in Jawan, which finally brought the National Award recognition that SRK had long deserved but had previously eluded him. This award marked a significant milestone in SRK’s career, elevating his status beyond commercial success to prestigious critical acclaim.

The letter, which can be seen as a "first ever love letter to SRK", was written to convey Atlee's appreciation for SRK’s dedication and impactful performance in Jawan, which led to the actor’s historic first National Award win.

Jawan, released in 2023, stars Shah Rukh Khan alongside Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, and Sanya Malhotra. The film was one of SRK's last major projects before it, with his last major film being My Name is Khan in 2010.

The 71st National Awards, recognizing multiple Indian actors, were recently announced on August 1. Following his win, SRK posted a video message thanking the jury and his fans for their support. The film Jawan was also nominated for the National Award, but did not win in any other category.
