Film Awards of the Nation, 71st Edition: Here's the Complete Lineup of Victors
The 72nd National Film Awards, announced in 2025, have honoured several noteworthy performances and films.
In the 72nd edition of the awards, the Best Feature Film was awarded to "12th Fail". Rani Mukerji received the Best Actress award for her lead role in "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway". Vijayaraghavan Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar won the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in "Pookkalam", while Urvashi Janaki Bodiwala was recognised as the Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Ullozhukku Vash".
The Best Direction award was given to Piyush Thakur for "The First Film". The Best Script was awarded to "Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know".
"Rimdogittanga" was honoured as the Best Garo Film, and Harshavardhan Rameshwar won the Best Music Direction for Background Scores award for "Animal". "Pai Tang... Step of Hope" was awarded the Best Tai Phake Film.
Prasantanu Mohapatra won the Best Cinematography award for "The Kerala Story". The Best Cinematography award was shared by Meenakshi Soman and Saravanamaruthu Soundarapandi for "Little Wings".
"Sam Bahadur" was recognised as the Best Film Promoting National, Social Values. "Vaathi" (Tamil) won the Best Music Direction for Songs. Sachin Sudhakaran and Hariharan Muralidharan were awarded the Best Sound Design for "Animal".
Other notable winners include "The Spirit Dreams of Cheraw" as the Best Debut Film of a Director, "The Silent Epidemic" as the Best Non-Feature Film Promoting Social and Environmental Values, and "God Vulture and Human" as the Best Documentary Film.
"Rongatapu 1982" won the Best Assamese Film award, "Hanu-Man" (Telugu) won the Best Action Choreography award, "Ullozhukku" won the Best Malayalam Film award, "Godday Godday Chaa" won the Best Punjabi Film award, "Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery" won the Best Hindi Film award, "Kandeelu- The Ray of Hope" won the Best Kannada Film award, "Deep Fridge" won the Best Bengali Film award, "Shyamchi Aai" won the Best Marathi Film award, "Pushkara" won the Best Odia Film award, and "Bhagavanth Kesari" won the Best Telugu Film award.
"The First Film" won the Best Music Direction, Pranil Desai being the recipient. "Giddh The Scavenger" was awarded the Best Short Film. "Sam Bahadur" won the Best Costume Design award, with Sachin Lovalekar, Divvya, and Nidhiii Gambhir being the winners. Shrikant Desai won the Best Make-Up Artist award for "Sam Bahadur".
Sukriti Veni Bandreddi, Kabir Khandane, and Treesh Thosar won the Best Child Artist award. "Dhindhora Baje" won the Best Choreography award. "Balagam" (The Group) won the Best Lyrics award. Best Editing was awarded to Niladri Roy for "Moving Focus".
Shah Rukh Khan won the Best Actor award for "Jawan", and Vikrant Massey won for "12th Fail". Deepak Kingrani won the Best Dialogue Writer award for "Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai". Midhun Murali won the Best Editing award for "Pookkaalam". Shilpa Rao won the Best Female Playback Singer award for "Chaliya".
"Premisthunna" won the Best Male Playback Singer award for PVM S roht. "Dhundhgiri Ke Phool" won the Best Sound Design award. "Flowering Man" was awarded the Best Non-Fiction Film. "The Sacred Jack - Exploring The Tree of Wishes" won the Best Voiceover, with Hari Krishnan S as the recipient. Mohandas won the Best Production Design award for "2018: Everyone is a Hero" (Malayalam). Best Film Critic was awarded to Utpal Datta.
The 71st National Film Awards, corresponding to the awards announced in 2023, also had some notable winners, including "The Kerala Story" winning the Best Director award for Sudipto Sen, "The Spirit Dreams of Cheraw" winning the Best Debut Film of a Director, and "Lentina Ao" winning the Best Biographical/Historical Reconstruction Film.
