The Reichenbachstraße Synagogue in Munich, Germany, has been reopened after an extensive restoration effort, almost 87 years since it was destroyed by the National Socialists during the Novemberpogroms of 1938. The reopening serves as a poignant reminder of the historical crimes against Jews in Germany and a testament to the resilience of the Jewish community.

Friedrich Merz, the current Federal Chancellor of Germany, expressed deep emotion during the reopening ceremony. He stated that he feels shame as the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany due to the resurgence of anti-Semitism in the country. Merz reiterated his commitment to combat anti-Semitism in all its forms, old and new, on behalf of the entire federal government.

Rachel Salamander, a member of the Reichenbachstraße Synagogue Association, initiated the restoration efforts that led to the synagogue's reopening. Her dedication and hard work have contributed significantly to preserving and promoting Jewish life in Germany.

Merz, who grew up with 'Never again' as a mission, a duty, and a promise, remembered the inhuman crimes committed by the National Socialists against Jews. He expressed his desire for Jewish life in Germany to be free of police protection, emphasising the need for a society that embraces diversity and promotes unity.

The reopening of the Reichenbachstraße Synagogue signifies a commitment to preserving and promoting Jewish life in Germany. It is a significant event in Germany's history, marking a step towards reconciliation and healing from past atrocities. Merz declared war on all forms of anti-Semitism in Germany, promising a concerted political, legal, and legislative fight against this persistent issue.

Anti-Semitism has flared up again in Germany, according to Merz. He sees a growing anti-Semitism, which he believes is linked to immigration, and he is determined to address this issue head-on. The reopening of the Reichenbachstraße Synagogue is a reminder of the need to combat anti-Semitism in Germany and to uphold the values of tolerance, respect, and equality for all.
