Last week, authorities in Hesse, Germany conducted raids on 85 homes as part of an ongoing investigation into sexual violence against children. One 18-year-old from Werra-Meißner district was arrested on charges of serious sexual abuse of minors. In total, 75 men and 12 women are under investigation, with 8 of them accused of child sexual abuse. The others are suspected of distributing, acquiring, or possessing child pornography. Notably, a quarter of the accused are below the age of 21.
During these raids, over 749 digital devices were confiscated, including 161 smartphones, 74 computers and laptops, and 97 USB sticks. Authorities are currently analyzing these seized data. Previous investigations revealed no contact between the suspects.
The BAO Fokus police unit, dedicated to fighting child abuse, is handling these cases. With over 300 employees, this unit pursues child abusers and sex offenders throughout Hesse and supports international manhunts against child pornography.
Rising concerns over child abuse prompted these widespread raids, emphasizing the urgency of continued efforts to combat this heinous crime.
