Fifty-year anniversary reissues planned for A Night At The Opera and Bohemian Rhapsody, as announced by the Queen team
Queen Celebrates 50th Anniversary of "A Night At The Opera" and "Bohemian Rhapsody"
In a special milestone, iconic British rock band Queen is celebrating the 50th anniversary of their groundbreaking album "A Night At The Opera" and the legendary single "Bohemian Rhapsody." The upcoming issue of Classic Rock, available on UK newsstands from October 10 and online from Magazines Direct, will feature an official "A Night At The Opera" premium issue, complete with a sticker, poster, and art card.
Brian May, the band's guitarist, hails "A Night At The Opera" as a hugely important album for Queen, opening up the world for them. Roger Taylor, the drummer, shares similar sentiments, describing the album as eclectic, mad, wonderful, and having a bit of everything in it. He also believes that "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a watershed moment for the band, thanks in large part to its unprecedented success.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" topped the UK charts for a then-record nine weeks in late 1975 and continued to break records in the years following its release. The single hit the #1 spot in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. The 12" picture disc and blue cassette single versions of "Bohemian Rhapsody" will be available via the Queen website.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" returned to the top of the UK chart in 1992 in the wake of Freddie Mercury's death, further cementing its status as a cultural phenomenon. On October 31, "Bohemian Rhapsody" will be released on transparent blue vinyl in both 7" and 12" editions.
"A Night At The Opera" was the most expensive album ever recorded at the time of its release, but the investment paid off. The album hit the top of the UK chart and was the band's first platinum album in the US. Reportedly, it has sold over 11 million copies worldwide.
The reissued album "A Night At The Opera" will be available on crystal clear vinyl with gold labels on October 18 in the UK and October 18 in the rest of the world. This reissue marks another milestone in the enduring legacy of Queen and their timeless music.
As songwriters, May and Taylor were challenging each other and competing in the best possible way during the creation of "A Night At The Opera." Taylor found "Bohemian Rhapsody" "something special" from the start, and the band was at the peak of their confidence during its creation.
The reissue of "A Night At The Opera" and the release of various formats of "Bohemian Rhapsody" serve as a testament to the lasting impact of these iconic pieces of music. Queen's popularity was not just limited to the UK, but extended to America, Australia, and everywhere, thanks in large part to these groundbreaking songs.
While information about the person responsible for the release of Queen's reissued album "A Night At The Opera" on crystal-clear vinyl on October 17 or 18, 2023, is not available, fans can look forward to celebrating these musical milestones with Queen.
