Fifth-day box office earnings for Kingdom: Sluggish performance by Vijay Deverakonda's film, yet to surpass ₹50 crore mark

In the action-packed film "Kingdom", Vijay Deverakonda takes on the role of a police constable named Suri, who embarks on a mission to find his long-lost brother Siva. The film, also starring Satyadev as Siva and Venkitesh as Murugan, was released in theatres on Thursday.

By the end of day 5, "Kingdom" had grossed approximately ₹42.55 crore in India, marking a strong start for the film. This figure includes ₹7.4 crore on Day 4 and approximately ₹2 crore on Day 5. By Day 8, the total India net collection stood close to ₹47.9 crore, making "Kingdom" Vijay Deverakonda's third biggest hit post-COVID, surpassing the lifetime collections of films like Liger (₹41.17 crore), Dear Comrade (₹26.2 crore), Family Star (₹18.25 crore), and World Famous Lover (₹12.55 crore).

The film has shown a slight dip in daily earnings after its initial days but still outperformed these earlier movies significantly within the first week. As of Tuesday, the total collection of "Kingdom" stood at ₹44.19 crore.

Interestingly, "Kingdom" has performed better than Vijay's previous films, Liger, which made ₹41.17 crore, and The Family Man, which made ₹18.25 crore in India. The film's opening collection was ₹18 crore on 31 July, and its first weekend collection was ₹40.90 crore net and ₹48.15 crore gross in India.

"Kingdom" involves Suri being embroiled in a war against a dangerous cartel by the Indian government. The film ends by setting up the story for a sequel. Despite mixed reviews, the film had a decent first weekend. However, it has shown a dip in collections, with a 72.97% dip on Monday and a further dip on Tuesday.

In the film, Bhagyashri Borse plays the character Dr Madhu. "Kingdom" is currently running in theatres, and it remains to be seen how much it collects in its first week at the box office. The film's worldwide gross by Day 8 was approximately ₹75.99 crore, making it Vijay's highest grosser in the post-COVID period.

  1. The government in India has shown support for the entertainment industry, as evidenced by the successful run of Vijay Deverakonda's latest film "Kingdom" at the box office.
  2. Despite mixed reviews, "Kingdom" has outperformed several of Vijay Deverakonda's previous films, including those in the realm of Bollywood, thereby solidifying his position as a leading actor in India's entertainment industry.
  3. As cricket and movies-and-tv are two of India's most popular forms of entertainment, the box office success of "Kingdom" can be seen as a testament to the ever-increasing popularity of Indian cinema.
