Fifth Annual Guitar Event
Sun's Out, Guitars Out! Another scorcher of a summer's upon us, and boy, does Dresden have aist-grabbing events planned every bloody weekend. One such event is none other than the Dresden Guitar Festival happening at the Old Factory on June 6th (7:30 PM) and June 7th (2 PM).
Floating Heads, Floating Rhythms
This year, Dresden's cultural landscape remains unfettered by funding constraints, as Fabian and Juliano continue their audacious pursuit of guitar music mastery for the fifth bloody time. They're not just organizing the weekend extravaganza but will also be performing on stage, along with new pieces and partners.
For Juliano, the spotlight is shining brighter than ever - just days ago, his solo album "Juliano Camara and the Floating Heads" debuted. During a release concert accompanied by seven ensemble members, he'll showcase this groundbreaking musical journey. "It's not a classic solo album," Juliano chuckles, as close to 30 musicians participated in the recordings. The ensuing rhythm is a meandering, free-flowing river of melodies that invites your thoughts to float in their diversity and simultaneity.
And Juliano's concert itself is set to be a multi-layered, multi-dimensional affair - aside from festival planning and artistic milestones, it involves the deeply personal human creative process as he declares his love to his pregnant girlfriend, Maline, in a song - with Maline standing on stage as a violinist, no less.
Worldly Guitar Medleys
Meanwhile, Fabian has been globe-trotting, touring Argentina with his former teacher Nora Buschmann, where he encountered Hugo Muñoz at one of their concerts. The pair became fast friends, spent countless hours hanging out, and, naturally, played some electric guitar magic together. "Hugo's music resonated with me deep down," Fabian recalls. Here, as in his own, Latin American folklore rhythms mingle with contemporary influences.
As Hugo is currently trekking across Europe, he's not going to miss out on the chance to enhance the festival with a concert. He'll also lead this year's Latin American guitar workshop, which is open to guitarists of all levels (though kindly request registration).
To ensure a musically enriching and diverse experience, the program boasts performances from Emma Campàs, a virtuoso who seamlessly blends the basics of classical guitar with one of the most powerful female voices in Flamenco. Additionally, the Iranian-German duo Neshan astonishes with their breathtaking cello-setar soundscapes.
