FIFA, Brazil in conflict regarding Carlo Ancelotti
FIFA launches investigation into Diego Fernandes' role in hiring of Carlo Ancelotti as Brazil's national team coach
FIFA has begun an investigation into the recruitment of Carlo Ancelotti as Brazil's national team coach, with concerns raised over a €1.2 million payment to intermediary Diego Fernandes. According to FIFA lawyers, the deal may have breached football agent activity rules.
FIFA has asked for all financial documents related to the contract involving Fernandes from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). In response, the CBF has sent a reply letter.
Fernandes, who does not currently possess a valid FIFA license to function as a football agent, has stated that he acted as a consultant due to time constraints, and plans to register as an agent to receive "fair value" for his work. However, his access to the national team has been restricted under new leadership, reflecting unease within the CBF about his role in the negotiations.
Ancelotti had already signed the contract with the Brazilians on May 26. Since then, the new coach of the five-time world champions has announced his team's lineup for the next two World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
The CBF has attributed the handling of the Ancelotti deal to a previous administration and is internally reviewing the matter.

I, being a football enthusiast, am closely following the ongoing investigation by FIFA into Diego Fernandes' involvement in the recruitment of football coach Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil's national team. Due to his lack of a valid FIFA license and his restricted access to the national team, I wonder if he played a significant role in securing Ancelotti's services for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
