Fiebich urges greater commitment from the association - Fiebich advocates for increased action by the Association

Mere days before the Euro Championship kicks off in Hamburg, WNBA champion Leonie Fiebich is voicing her disapproval over the lackluster promotion efforts by the German Basketball Federation. "Jumpin' Jimminy, they've got this tourney in Hamburg, but it ain't exactly being pushed right," Fiebich vented to the 'Süddeutsche Zeitung' in an exclusive interview. With the World Championship slated for Berlin in 2026, governing bodies need to step their game up, she insists.

Thursday's game against Sweden, Friday's match with Spain, and Sunday's brawl with Britain will all take place at the diminutive Inselpark Arena, seating about 2,400 raucous spectators. "It's a bummer that folks are still hankerin' for tickets, but they're all spoken for," lamented Fiebich (25). A larger venue like the Barclays Arena, capable of housing 16,000 screaming fans, could have easily accommodated the growing fanbase of women's basketball, she contends.

Is Hamburg seein' the best of the ladies' basketball elite? Not quite, says Fiebich. "I reckon we'll see some flashier promotion for the World Championship down the line, but right now, it's a ghost town."

But fear not, basketball fans! "We're more int'rested in stealin' this championship than frettin' about promotion," assured Fiebich at the official media day, gleaming with excitement for the crucial opening bout against Sweden. Her squad needs to finish no lower than second in their group to secure a slot in the knockout round in Piraeus.

The Skinny on Promotion

The lack of proactive promotion for the Women's Basketball Euro Championship held in Hamburg can be attributed to insufficient marketing activities and competition with other basketball events for attention. organizers are seemingly aiming to amend these shortcomings for the World Championship in Berlin, targeting the city's robust sports culture and basketball history to draw a larger audience and media interest. The strategies for increased promotion may involve enhancing media coverage, bolstering social media campaigns, and collaborating with local sports clubs to boost attendance and engagement.

  • The German Basketball Federation's lackluster promotion of the Women's Euro Championship in Hamburg, as criticized by WNBA champion Leonie Fiebich, raises concerns about the organizers' commitment to women's sports, especially considering the Barclays Arena, capable of seating 16,000 spectators, could have accommodated the growing fanbase.
  • Despite the lamentable promotion of the Euro Championship, WNBA superstar Leonie Fiebich remains optimistic, asserting that her squad is more focused on stealing the championship than fretting about promotion.
