Arms manufacturer FFG expands - Groundbreaking for new building - FFG Breaks Ground on Plant 3 to Boost European Defence Production

Defence contractor Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) has broken ground on Plant 3, a major expansion project in Flensburg. The new facility will double the company's production space and create modern jobs, marking a key development for both the firm and the region's industrial growth.

The groundbreaking ceremony drew high-profile attendees, including Schleswig-Holstein's Minister-President Daniel Günther and Bundeswehr Chief of Defense General Carsten Breuer. Günther highlighted the project as a strong signal for European defence capabilities, while Breuer stressed its role in countering Russia's military expansion.

Plant 3 will feature a five-story administrative building, two large production halls, and a logistics centre with an automated high-bay warehouse. Production is scheduled to start in spring 2027, significantly increasing FFG's output capacity.

In partnership with Finnish defence group Patria, FFG will manufacture around 300 armoured transport vehicles for the Bundeswehr. While exact job numbers remain unspecified, the company has advertised roles such as design engineer in electromechanics, signalling demand for skilled technical staff.

The new facility will strengthen Flensburg and Schleswig-Holstein as industrial hubs. With expanded production and modern job opportunities, Plant 3 is set to play a key role in both regional growth and European defence efforts. Construction is now underway, with operations expected to begin in 2027.
