Less Drowning Mishaps in Hesse's Waters 🤔☔️

- Fewer drownings projected in Hessen by 2024

'Twas a lighter year in Hesse when it came to tragic drownings. As per the German Lifesaving Association (DLRG), only 12 souls perished in local waters back in 2024, in stark contrast to the 18 unlucky souls who met their end the year prior. Unsurprisingly, senza volare in a river accounted for half of these unhappy incidents, and five individuals suffered a watery demise in a lake. One unfortunate soul even drowned in a pond.

July bore the brunt of tragedy with six recorded drowning incidents, followed closely by September with a couple of victims, and a single fatality apiece in February, April, June, and December.

Now, brace yourselves, because whilst Hesse saw a drop in drownings, it wasn't the case for the entire nation. In fact, the DLRG revealed a chilling statistic—an increase of 31 water-bound fatalities in 2024, bringing the total to a grim 411. "This marks the first time since 2019 that our statistics have eclipsed the 400-victim mark," said DLRG President Ute Vogt. Interestingly enough, the majority of drowning incidents still occur in lakes, even though that's also where most swimming and surfing happen. 🌊🏄‍♂️
