Festo acquires R. Neddermann to boost pneumatic sealing expertise
Festo has completed the acquisition of R. Neddermann GmbH, a specialist in sealing and rubber technologies for pneumatic systems. The deal took effect on January 1, 2026, marking a strategic move to strengthen Festo's position in the market. The company will now operate under the name Gummiwarenfabrik R. Neddermann GmbH – a Festo Group Company.
R. Neddermann GmbH has long been recognised for its expertise in rubber and sealing solutions, particularly for pneumatic applications. The acquisition follows the retirement of Matthias Knieß, the former managing director and owner, who led the company before the takeover.
Festo, already a major player in pneumatics, held around 10-12% of the global market before the deal. This placed it behind industry leaders SMC Corporation (~30%) and Parker Hannifin (~15%) but ahead of competitors like ASCO Group (~5%) and Kaeser Kompressoren (~3-4%). Between 2018 and 2021, Festo expanded steadily through innovation in automation components, while SMC maintained dominance in Asia.
The takeover enhances Festo's production capabilities, particularly in valve seals, allowing for faster development of pneumatic systems. Thomas Böck, CEO of Festo, described the acquisition as strategically important, securing critical expertise for the group. Leadership of the newly integrated company will fall to Sebastian Schill, who currently heads Festo's Technology Plant in Scharnhausen.
The acquisition solidifies Festo's leadership in pneumatic technology. With expanded production and specialised knowledge, the company aims to accelerate innovation in sealing solutions. The renamed Gummiwarenfabrik R. Neddermann GmbH will continue operations under Festo's direction from 2026 onward.
