The St. Sebastian Brotherhood in Kaiserswerth: A Royal Affair

The Tambour-Corps Barbarossa's current rulers, Sebastian and Julia Gotzes, have quite the tale to tell. Serving as the King and Queen of the St. Sebastian Brotherhood, their latest reign reached an apex during the recent shooting festival. Amid the festivities, their son Maximilian stole the spotlight, claiming the title of Junior Shooting King on his birthday weekend. Yet, it was his grandpa, Peter Gotzes, who brought the limelight back to the elder generation during the King's shooting event the next day.

Over the past year, the St. Sebastian Brotherhood has modified its shooting festival schedule to accommodate a broader audience. The celebrations commenced on Friday with a memorial service and a moving taps ceremony, subsequently giving way to an evening party in the festive tent.

The grand parade and procession took place on Saturday afternoon, drawing crowds to the town hall and lining the streets. Even those unaware of the shooting festival event stopped to catch a glimpse.

Before the grand procession, the Majesties and their distinguished guests inspected the armed ranks. The Regal Couple, Sebastian and Julia Gotzes, their heirs apparent, Erik Fuks-Markovic and Lena Schmitz, the Student Prize recipient, Ian Dorn, and the Junior Shooting King, Adrian Barsch, sat proudly in beautifully adorned carriages. The parade's pulled wagon, decorated with a wreath, even accommodated a rickshaw for the Junior Shooting King and his companion.

Following a successful Junior Shooting Kingship for Maximilian Gotzes, the new Regal Couple, along with their heirs, were crowned on Monday following the high mass in the basilica. Peter Gotzes, Maximilian's grandfather, made the King's shot. His queen, Petra, stood by his side. A member of the III. Zug and the brotherhood's treasurer, Peter, graced the throne. The new Crown Prince is David Kann from the Tambour-Corps Barbarossa, partnered with Caroline Riedewald. Their coronation took place on Sunday evening, marking the closing of the shooting festival with a touching taps ceremony.
