The Minnesota Renaissance Festival, a popular annual event that transports visitors to medieval times, is ready to open its gates for 2025. Despite a significant setback in April, when a lightning strike caused a fire that destroyed six buildings and displaced three artisan booths, the festival has recovered remarkably well and is all set to resume from August 16 through September 28.
The fire, which affected the “600 area” of the festival grounds, resulted in the loss of several artisan shops. However, the displaced crafters have already picked other spots for this year's festival. The affected area will look different but will remain operational, with slightly more food options planned there this year.
Stephanie Whipps, the executive director of the festival, has led the recovery efforts and has expressed her satisfaction with the progress made. "We are close to being ready to open," she said. The festival has prepared extensively for recovery since the fire, and despite the damage, Whipps is optimistic about the upcoming event.
New attractions at the festival for 2025 include a viking invasion game, adding an exciting twist to the medieval experience. Actors at the festival, such as Lorde Bacon and Auntie Ingril, have expressed their readiness and excitement for the festival. They emphasise the importance of maintaining the festival's unique experience and community spirit despite the event's setbacks.
