Rockin' Summer Nights: Kicking off the 35th Music Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with a Bang!
Kick-off of MV Festival featuring a live performance in Wismar - Festival kicks off with a musical performance in Wismar
Let's tune in and get ready to groove! The Music Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is back, baby, and it's gearing up for an unforgettable 35th summer season packed with tunes you won't forget.
The opening act happened in the picturesque city of Wismar, where, under the brilliant conductorship of 97-year-old maestro Herbert Blomstedt, the world-acclaimed Elbphilharmonie Orchestra stole the show! This powerhouse ensemble owned St. George's Church, enchanting the crowd with a program that included the festival's exclusive overture alongside magical works by Bach and Beethoven.
Good vibes all around! The state's Minister President, Manuela Schwesig, seized the momentum to acknowledge and honor the festival's 35-year anniversary. Now older than Mecklenburg-Vorpommern itself, the Music Festival has left its footprint in the region since 1990, even before the unification of Germany!
From classical to family-friendly fun, there's a festival event for everyone, and this year's lineup is no exception! Schwesig highlighted the versatility of the festival, which isn't just for concert-goers—it's for music enthusiasts from all walks of life. Smaller events like the Great Park Festival in Ludwigslust or Hasenwinkel's family fest hype up thelively spirit of the region and offer excitement for kids and adults alike!
The harmony of music unites us, and that's what the Music Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is all about. Festival director Ursula Haselböck emphasized the power of this unifying force, noting that the festival was established to share music in the Hanseatic cities... and beyond, to those who might feel far from the glamorous concert halls. The mission is to build a community where love for music triumphs over isolation and indifference.
This summer, mark your calendars for a grand tour you won't easily forget! More than 130 events unfold across 96 venues throughout the region, from stately manor houses to centuries-old churches to industrial halls. The diversity in settings is a signature aspect of the festival that's sure to add an extra layer of intrigue to the remarkable music performances found at every turn!
And don't forget about the festival's budding talent competition, "Young Elite," as well as its fresh takes on classical music, including electronic (E-) and underground (U-) music. To top it off, take a peaceful countryside journey as you sway to the rhythm and enjoy everything this phenomenal festival has to offer!
Be on the lookout for break-out performances from Anastasia Kobekina, the 2025 prize winner in residence. Over the course of 20 concerts, she promises to leave her unique imprint on the festival. As a commemoration of the festival's foundation 35 years ago, we'll celebrate with a grand birthday concert on a special day in July. Some of the most popular events, such as the park open-air concerts, the Landgestüt concerts in Redefin, and the festival barn in Ulrichshusen, guarantee an unforgettable experience.
Grab your tickets, pack your bags, and get ready to immerse yourself in an electrifying summer of music, camaraderie, and the ultimate festival experience!
