Festival Kickoff in Tartu's Main Square: Rain Fails to Deter Movie Enthusiasts from Gathering for the Love Film Festival Opening
The 20th Tartu Love Film Festival, or Tartuff, is currently underway in Estonia's second city, Tartu. The festival, which takes place at Estonia's largest open-air movie theater in Town Hall Square, is offering a week-long celebration of cinema from August 4 to 9.
The festival opened on Monday night with a double feature consisting of Richard Linklater's "New Wave" and Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet". Over 1,100 people braved the chilly and gloomy weather following the flooding earlier in the day to attend the opening screening.

On Thursday, "Mat the Cat" (2005) and Jean-Luc Godard's "Breathless" (1960) will be screened at Tartu Elektriteater, followed by "I Love You Forever" (2024) and "Before Sunrise" (1995) on the outdoor big screen at 10 p.m. and midnight respectively.
The full program for Tartuff, along with additional information, can be found on the festival's official website. All Tartuff screenings during the festival are free of charge.
On Thursday night, the Town Hall Square will also host a double feature, with "I Love You Forever" screening at 10 p.m. and "Before Sunrise" following at midnight.
The festival was opened by Johan Kudu, Tartu Mayor Urmas Klaas, and Tiina Lokk, the director of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF).
