Festival Kampnagel's summer extravaganza kicks off in June 2023
The city of Hamburg is set to host an exciting cultural extravaganza with the International Summer Festival 2023 at Kampnagel. This year's festival promises over 150 events, including 37 concerts featuring renowned artists such as Mulatu Astatke, Jeff Mills, and Graindelavoix, as well as 29 different stage works with five world premieres.
The festival is supported by ElbCulturalFund 2024, which has funded 7 projects for this year's event. One of the highlights is the world premiere of "Age of Content", an exploration into internet and pop culture.
Hamburg's creative industry is embracing cross-innovation approaches, as evidenced by the diverse range of events on offer. The festival director, András Siebold, states that the festival offers a glimpse into the future of stage arts.
In addition to the main festival, the Elbphilharmonie Summer will feature classical and jazz music from around the world. The UEFA Euro 2024 also has various highlights in Hamburg, with "One Song" by performance artist Miet Warlop being part of the cultural program.
"Josse Jnr.", a piece focusing on football while addressing themes such as football migration and power structures, will premiere on August 10. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, information about the artists collaborating on this premiere is not available.
The Vienna-based theater group Nesterval will play "The Nameless - persecuted in Hamburg" at the Kakaospeicher-Halle in the HafenCity from August 10. Austrian director Florentina Holzinger will also present a feminist theater spectacle with "Ophelia's got Talent" from August 17.
