Festival in Braunschweig kicks off with the matriarch of shock cinema's presence

The 39th Braunschweig International Film Festival (BIFF) is set to open on November 10th, marking the 23rd year of cooperation between the State Orchestra and the film festival. This year, the festival will kick off with a special event – a live performance of Bernard Herrmann's iconic score for Alfred Hitchcock's classic "Psycho."

First released in 1960, "Psycho" remains a thrilling and suspenseful masterpiece, with its famous shower scene intensified by Herrmann's screeching, nerve-shredding string music. The American Film Institute counts this tense music among the five best film scores of all time.

Under the direction of conductor Ernst van Tiel, a compact string orchestra will perform the live soundtrack of "Psycho" at the Volkswagen Hall. Due to budget reasons, Herrmann composed exclusively for a string orchestra for the tense music of "Psycho."

Festival director Karina Gauerhof announced that the festival will open with "Psycho." She hopes for many visitors aged 12 and up to attend this unique event. Gauerhof emphasizes that Herrmann's music reinforces the psychological tension of the thriller "Psycho."

Verena Rast, director of the Braunschweig Orchestra, shares Gauerhof's excitement. She believes that the live performance of Herrmann's score will enhance the viewing experience, making the 65-year-old film feel as fresh and dramatic as ever.

The opening film concert for "Psycho" starts at 24.90 euros, and tickets can be purchased online at filmfest-braunschweig.reservix.de. The festival week runs until Sunday, November 16th.

The 39th BIFF is supported by BS Energy, the Stiftung Braunschweigischer Kulturbesitz, and the main sponsor Volkswagen Financial Services. Gauerhof promises a diverse program with a focus on young, current European cinema.
