Soaking Wet, Yet Still Ready to Rock: Rock im Park's 30th Anniversary Party in Nuremberg
Rain didn't dampen the jovial festivity at Rock im Park - Festival goers persist with good vibes amidst rainfall at Rock in the Park event
Let the record show, it drizzled on and off during the inaugural day of Rock im Park's 30th anniversary bash, but that wasn't enough to dampen the spirits of the music enthusiasts. Festive in their rain ponchos and high on life, an immense horde of rockers flocked the grounds of Nuremberg, ready to celebrate the biggest crowd in the history of this open-air spectacular.
Rumour has it that the count could reach an impressive nearly 90,000 visitors by Sunday, the highest attendance ever.
Now, don't be fooled by the rain showers. Rain ponchos were the fashion accessory of choice for the day, as the crowd danced and sang with wild abandon in front of the stages. Some chose to stand out with an array of vibrant costumes, while others adopted more practical attire like wellington boots. A canny few even wrapped plastic bags around their shoes to keep the damp at bay.
The storm couldn't tarnish the revelry
"It's all part of the fun! What's a little rain when you're here to party," quipped a 49-year-old from Braunschweig, a frequenter of Rock im Park, drawn in by the enchanting festival vibe and picturesque setting. "Everything is compact, the stages are close, and it's just green everywhere."
Kicking off the festival on day one were renowned German rapper Kontra K, reverberating British metal band Bullet For My Valentine, and American heavyweight Slipknot. As a special nod to the 30th anniversary, an addition has been made to the usual three stages – welcoming four stages this year. In total, an exhilarating lineup of a hundred musical performances stretches across the upcoming days.
At the anniversary party, Rock am Ring in the Eifel is celebrating its very own milestone – 40 years in the scene. The twin festival launched in a surprising manner with the German band Electric Callboy taking centre stage.
Two more surprises? Here's hoping!
Sunday holds a couple of aces up its sleeve, with two secret performers planned to take the stage. The music community is already abuzz with speculation, wondering if these surprise acts will be the same as Rock am Ring's. However, organizers remain tight-lipped about the finale details.
A few hitches here and there
"The atmosphere has been fantastic – it's been so peaceful and relaxed," shared Sohrab Taheri-Sohi of the Bavarian Red Cross, managers of the rescue services on the grounds. A considerable number of Parkrocker had already staked their claim a day ahead of the festivities. By Friday afternoon, medical services reported some 200 assistance cases – mostly minor ones like burns from camp stoves or cuts from can openers.
Despite a slightly chaotic entrance and poor signage, complaints were few and far between. "And unloading the car in the rain was a nightmare," grumbled a 29-year-old from Kulmbach. However, these blips paled in comparison to the pulsating energy coursing through the festival once the music began. "Now that the tunes are playing, the vibe is just right again."
Gear up for the remainder of the weekend, with performances lined up from Weezer, Slipknot, Korn, Bring Me The Horizon, Rise Against, The Prodigy, and many more!
